A Man Out Of Time

A Black Samurai: The Story of Yasuke

A Man Out of Time

Yasuke was a man of African origin who served as a retainer to the Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga in 1581-1582 during the Sengoku period. Born in Mozambique in the mid-16th century, Yasuke was brought to Japan by Jesuit missionaries in 1579. He quickly rose through the ranks of Nobunaga's army, becoming one of his most trusted generals.

A Warrior's Life

Yasuke was a skilled warrior, known for his strength and courage. He fought alongside Nobunaga in many battles, including the Battle of Okehazama in 1560 and the Battle of Nagashino in 1575. Yasuke's bravery and loyalty earned him the respect of both his fellow soldiers and his enemies.

In 1582, Nobunaga was betrayed and killed by one of his generals, Akechi Mitsuhide. Yasuke fought bravely in the Battle of Honnō-ji, but was eventually captured and executed. His death marked the end of an extraordinary chapter in Japanese history.
